Greetings from Guatemala! The Helwer family have been living in the mountains of Guatemala since early 2004, working amongst the indigenous Mayans of that area.
Both Bob and Shawn were called to missions at and early age. They grew up in the Saginaw, Michigan area and were married in 1990. After attending Berean College, they spent 13 years in full-time youth ministry in Michigan.
God opened the door for them to come to Guatemala during the fall of 2003 when they and their three sons: Robert, II, Brenden & Cameron, moved to Chichicastenango, Guatemala. In 2006, they adopted their precious daughter Miriam.

 Bob and Shawn work with ASELSI Ministries in the Western Highlands of Guatemala, living and serving amongst the Mayan Indians of that region. Shawn works with the ASELSI medical clinic and coordinates the Guatemalan distribution center. Bob has served as the short-term mission team director, web administrator as well as playing the keyboard and leading worship and is currently pioneering a new endeavor of producing video curriculum geared towards indigenous people groups to be distributed across Central and South America.
